All it takes is a simple Web site to start building your personal brand and online presence. We started out with a blog and have evolved into a business because of the community we build and our loyal readers.

When Patrick applied to intern for us, we came upon his personal Web site and subsequently his blog – which I might add was all on his resume for us to see. From this we got a better understand of who he was beyond his resume and what he could bring to the company.

It can difficult though to create a personal Web site if you can't code. There are A LOT of sites out there though (like our own) that will help and assist you along the way to make it as easy as possible.

I agree 100% - having your own personal website, no matter your age or professional position, is becoming essential to succeed in today's business environment. After talking with my friend and colleague Pat Ambron last month, I realized the importance of creating your own website and immediately contacted a web designer friend of mine.

I think it is a terrific way to control the message being communicated by your personal brand. I would add that a good tip once you have created your personal website is to include a link to it in your email signature so others can check it out.

It would be great to learn more on how to use your personal website, how to set it up, etc. Mine is very basic, and I'm not sure where to take it in the future (especially given my inability to code and make changes to my site).

I to believe that everyone should have their personal domain for personal branding purposes. A website can be a daunting task to create, maintain and advocate; creating a blog is definitively a much better and simpler way to create a quick, easy and effective online presence. Who ever comes upon your site will not only get a better understand of who you are but also a more personal feel for how your write and interact with your community. No technical knowledge required

I agree that everyone should have a personal domain address with their name for future personal branding purposes. I do NOT recommend everyone build a website. My experience is that a blogging platform like wordpress is probably a better solution for the vast majority of people, particularly those engaged in job search. The blog platform can resemble a website and the content management capability without any technical html knowledge is extraordinary.

Whenever someone needs to find more information about anything they Google it! If you don’t come up in Google then you don’t exist, which is why you need a personal domain.

We know exactly how you feel about the domain, we had the same problem but we worked around it and make it work for us! Come up top three for “brand yourself” in every search engine!

Getting your name for your domain is key. I had to make a small sacrifice to get mine, I had to put a dash between my first and last name, but it paid off because I am the number one result on Google, Yahoo, and even Bing!

The sooner you register yours the better and besides its only $10

I agree you should lock up your personal domain. It’s a sure fire way to get your name recognized by the search engines and it can evolve just as you do.
