Great advice, and as a rising senior I agree with it all. However I myself have always had difficulty in terms of talking to professors. Would you have any tips that make it easier for someone to start chatting with a professor?

I think in all honesty, a lot of students, myself included, are simply intimidated by their professors. Some professors are friendly, but more often I've found that they aren't all that excited about chatting, unless I say something brilliant. And more often than not I don't have anything particularly brilliant to say! How do you start chatting with professors?

Great advice. The first and last points particularly stand out. No one takes as much advantage of office hours as they should even though it's the best time to get to know your professor.

A person branding or networking class should definitely be mandatory as it is essential for almost any profession. This would be one of the few classes that will actually help you in your career :)

My thoughts exactly Trace.....I think it should be mandatory for each freshman to take a personal branding/networking class. This would give you four solid years of forming a very powerful network of teachers/professionals and gives you an opportunity to discover/fine tune your personal brand.

Thanks for the post Adrienne.

This is great advice that I wish someone had given me years ago when I was a freshmen. Most students think that it is "weird" to be friends with your professor, which is a huge misconception. If anyone can help you, it is your professor who has been through everything you have and can give you sound advice. They are there to not only try and educate you but to help you as well. Where else do you have an opportunity to such a bountiful amount of professionals willing to help you?
