Part 4: How I Work With My Personal Brand – How I Communicate What I Do

This is the last post out of 4 regarding how I work with my personal brand:
Part 1: How I Work With My Personal Branding – Who I Am
Part 2: How I Work With My Personal Branding - How I Communicate Who I Am
Part 3: How I Work With My Personal Branding - What I Do

How I communicate what I do

Showing what I do and have done adds credibility to my skills, shows that what I do is in alignment with my values, and that my brand is to be trusted.

Every now and then I send an email to my mailing list that consists of friends from around the world. The emails are sent in three different languages (Swedish, English and Spanish) and have a very personal style even if my professional life is discussed as well. This does not only help me stay in touch with my friends, but helps me put down in words what I have accomplished and what I have planned for the future.

Here are some other ways I communicate what I do and what I have done:

Past

As a complement to my resume and consultant profile I use LinkedIn, XING and Google Profile as three outposts to communicate what I have achieved earlier. For me this is a manageable number of places, however, while writing these posts I feel that I should update my personal description. It is not that it is not in alignment with what I would like to communicate, but it could be freshened up.

Present

It is very easy to get caught up in different social media channels, communicating what you are doing all the time. The key is to know what you want to communicating and to whom. Choose the channel, message and moment wisely to achieve the correct effect of communicating what you are doing. I use mainly three channels that are partly connected. Gowalla to add location to my status message, ex. “Strategy workshop — at The Rynge Group AB (Gårda) http://gowal.la/s/4tMd” that is sent to both Facebook and Twitter. On Twitter I mainly discuss topics I work with or read about.

Future

My main area for communicating what I am about to do is in business meetings, with my close friendss and family. This is mainly done in the personal meeting, but I also have the newsletter mentioned earlier. I do actually communicate very little about what I am going to do in the future in social media.

Conclusion

Writing this series of articles has made me aware of some ideas on how to improve the way I work with my brand, on the personal development side as well as the marketing side. I hope I have inspired you to think about how you work with your brand as well and how you can take your brand to the next level, and make sure that people know about it!
