Going to the Movies with Your Personal Brand Personality

Brand personality

We all know what it’s like going to see a movie on the big screen. If the movie’s really hyped up, it’s almost hard to contain the excitement and the expectations. If it’s received bad reviews but you just have to pay homage to your favorite actor, you’re a bit hesitant to watch. But aside from the films themselves, have you ever really paid attention to the fellow movie-goers around you? How they act during the movie can give some insight to their brand personality.

The Loud Talker

Unfortunately, there’s usually a person or two in the movie theatre that doesn’t care for others being able to hear. They shout to the people with them and chew their popcorn as loudly as possible, so you can’t help but give a disgusted look. Though we find it annoying, in a normal social setting, they’d be the life of the party! This group of movie goers is likely very outgoing, though sometimes too outgoing. They’re those who will tweet out very personal details of their lives, share each experience they’ve just been through in a Facebook status, and let their online brand personality become a documentary of their personal lives. Even if you are a very loud, free spirited person, you shouldn’t let your brand personality get out of control. Avoid getting too personal online, it could come back to haunt you.

The Seat Kicker

Many of you have probably experienced that feeling of dread when a loud group of girls or a family with young kids decides to sit directly behind you. You hope and you pray that you won’t feel that thump on the back of your seat, when all of a sudden the climax is building and you forget about those around you and…kick. Those who choose to kick the seats in front of them for their own amusement, with no regard for whom they’re kicking, are like those who are focused on their own climb up the corporate ladder. They make connections for the sake of having a lot of connections and don’t bother to help those who ask for tips or take interest in what others are doing. This is exactly what you want to steer clear of. Though it’s important to want to advance your career and know how to get ahead, it should never be done at the expense of others and with a “me me me” attitude.

The Casual Movie-Goer

The majority of people sitting around you in the theatre are likely casual movie-goers, those who don’t let anything bother them; they just want to watch the movie in peace. They might make a comment or two during the film, but in hushed tones, they eat quietly and keep their feet to themselves. These movie watchers are all about the laid back attitude. While it’s good to have this feel when enjoying a flick, it won’t necessarily translate well into your brand personality. Though it’s all well and good to settle in and mind your own business at the movies, it’s important to make a more significant statement at the work place and online. Make meaningful connections and pipe up in tweetdom and LinkedIn conversations. Even if you’re shy or quiet, social media is your friend, so you should put it to good use.

Be In Between

Overall, it’d be best for your brand personality to be in between all of those aforementioned types. Avoid being too personal, but be outgoing and open. Watch your own back and work to advance, but also make the time to interact with your friends and give a tip or two. Be polite and respectful, but don’t be afraid to stand out and make a name for yourself. With these guidelines, you’ll surely enjoy the movies and your work life a lot more.
