Great advice to create a Google profile as it should show up higher than most other sites. As it is a relatively new service – only a few months old – most people don't know about it so thank you for sharing with our readers. Now about building a Web site; i understand your point about not building one yourself aka get a coder and try to make a really “great” Web site. It is true that you will have less control over it as you don't know how to modify it. The other platforms you mentioned are definitely a great way to go as they get more and more powerful. Registering your name is key though.

Great points about getting started in personal branding and tracking it through google. Couple of interesting points I would add to your post. First, personal branders and especially job seekers should make sure to fill out a google profile – As a recruiter, I've found some very good candidates just through their Google profile. Secondly, I would recommend for most professionals and job seekers NOT to build a website. Most of the major blog platforms provide enough templates/tools to simulate a website look and feel with much greater flexibility than any static website will provide. However, I do recommend you register your name OR brand ASAP and use that for your blog address if your blogging platform permits it – otherwise point it to your blog.
